Bio
Gil graduated form East Central State College in 1968. In, 1972
Gil earned is Doctor of Optometry from the Southern College of
Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee before turning professional later
that year.
Gil would win seven times on the PGA Tour from his first in 1977
to his last at the 1990 Kemper Open. He played on two U.S. Ryder
Cup Teams the first being in 1979 and again in 1983.
Gil became eligible for the Champions Tour in 1996 and would
win quick and often, the first being 11 days after he turned 50
at the Ralph’s Senior Classic. He would go on to win 24
times on the Champions Tour and of those, three would be Senior
Majors. The first coming at The Tradition in 1997 and would defend
his title in 1998. He added the third senior major title later
that same year at the 1998 Senior Players Championship.
Gil is married to Jeanine and they have three daughters, Molly,
Maggie and Melanie.
